The Holeshot Manual Starting Gate allows a rider to focus on starting skills. A successful start is a mixture of great reaction time, balance, clutch control and throttle control. Additionally, with the immense horsepower of modern motocross bikes, it is important to work on your bike controls and traction out of the gate and into the first corner.

Practice Made Easy

1. Set/Reset the Gate

Step on the foot pedal to set the gate into the launch position.

2. Rider at the Ready

◄What are some best practices for communicating trainer to rider?

The person controlling the release trigger (The controller) should be aware of how a typical motocross race is started. Follow these steps for instruction and tips.

The controller should make sure the rider is ready by pointing at them and waiting for the rider to nod back confirming they are ready.
The controller should give the rider a signal similar to the 30-second card going sideways. This signal could be as simple as turning your hand sideways. This will notify the rider that the controller will be dropping the gate anytime in the next 2-5 seconds
At the controller's discretion, they should pull the trigger with their finger releasing the gate 2-5 seconds after signaling the rider the "sideways 30-second card".
The controller should change up the timing and make each gate drop random for the rider. This will replicate a real race scenario.
The controller should try to accurately count out the timing in their head so they can truly give the rider the appropriate window of time and random sequences. Example: 1 Mississippi - 2 Mississippi - 3 Mississippi - Etc.
The controller should hide the trigger from the rider so the rider can't watch their finger.
The controller should stand well to the side of the gate and protect themselves from the roost that the rider's motorcycle will kick back. Roost can be dangerous so it is up to the controller to protect themselves. Wear protective clothing/equipment including safety glasses.
