Get Podium Winning Starts

Getting a holeshot is easy right? ...Wrong, but most races are won and lost at the drop of the gate, so perfecting your starting technique is key to any MX racer who wants to be on the podium. Improve your reaction time and learn to control power out of the gate and into the first corner.

Practice Made Easy

Remote Start

The “Holeshot” is a completely random timed, electronic, wireless, practice starting gate. This innovative product allows riders to independently practice their starts. When the rider presses the wireless remote button mounted on their crossbar pad, it will activate a computer controlled timing sequence which will drop the gate randomly.

Random Timing

After the remote button is pressed a green LED will illuminate on the gate. This lets the rider know the gate has received the signal and gives the rider 2 seconds to get his or her hands back on the bars. The LED will then turn red and start blinking. When it starts blinking it is like the 30 second board turning sideways. Get ready becuase the gate will now drop randomly between 1-5 seconds, just like an AMA Pro National!

Reset

Resetting the gate is as easy as riding by and stepping on the backside of the hoop without dismounting. Multiple gates can be electronically linked for multi-racer, bar banging practice. Simply plug multiple gates into each other using the supplied linking wire and all the gates will drop at the same time using a random timed signal from one remote button.

Instant Drop

The Holeshot also has a new “Instant Drop” feature. If you are using a trainer, parent or riding buddy to practice your starts and want to bypass the random timing sequence in order to control the drop sequence, you can plug the remote button directly into the gate. Simply plug the 6 foot long cable supplied with your gate directly into the remote button and into the ride side of your gate. This will automatically eliminate the wireless signal and random sequence. The gate will drop as soon as the button is pressed.

◄General Troubleshooting

Proper function for the gate:

When the power switch is turned on, you should immediately see an L.E.D. blink quickly, green then red, then the L.E.D will go blank until the remote is pressed.
When the remote is used in the wireless capacity it will function as follows…When the remote is pressed a green LED will light up on the electronics for exactly 2 seconds (This gives the rider the chance to put his or her hands back on the bars). Then the LED flashes RED. This is like the 30second card turning sideways in a real race, which means the gate will drop RANDOMLY between 2-5 seconds.
When the remote is wired into the gate using the supplied 6 foot cable the gate is designed to drop instantly. As soon as the button is pressed the gate should drop. (The lights may still blink, but it means nothing).

If your Holeshot gate is not working, the first thing to check are the batteries. Please ensure you have installed a total of 8 NEW “AA” batteries (Old batteries from around the house will not work. The gate requires a full 12 volts to drop so new batteries are important). Make sure you have all 8 batteries installed correctly.

◄Does the gate have power?

To determine if your gate has power, simply turn the power switch off (switch in the up position), and wait 5 seconds before turning back on. When you switch the power button into the “ON” position you should see an L.E.D. blink quickly, green then red, then the L.E.D will go blank. If you see the LED blink then you know that you have power to your gate. Please note, the LED’s may blink with low batteries. The gate requires a full 12 volts to drop so NEW batteries are important.

If you do NOT see the L.E.D. blink quickly, green then red, then you are not getting power to the gate. Make sure you have all 8 batteries installed correctly. Make sure all contacts on the batteries are touching each other, or the battery holder. Sometimes it helps to twist the battery holder with the batteries installed. (Twist like you were wringing out a wet rag. Not hard enough to break the unit, just enough to loosen the batteries in the holder). Make sure the spring in the battery holder is able to push the “AA” batteries to the opposite contact.

Test for power again by turning off the unit for 5 seconds and then turning it back on. If you see the L.E.D. blink quickly, green then red, then test the gate. If you DO NOT see the L.E.D. blink quickly, green then red, then call Risk Racing 704-508-1031.

◄My gate has power as tested above, but nothing happens when I press the wireless remote

If your Holeshot Starting Gate is not receiving a signal from the wireless remote (meaning; when you press the remote button, the LED on the gate does NOT blink), then this will mean one of three things. (If the LED on the gate DOES blink when you press the wireless remote, but the gate doesn’t drop, Skip to the next section)

Option 1: The battery in your wireless remote is dead. Replace the battery with a new battery and try again. The battery in the remote is a “23A”, which is common at most retail stores. It is like the battery in many garage door remote controls.

Option 2: The 8 “AA” batteries in your gate are dead, or have a bad connection. The Holeshot gate requires a total of 8 NEW “AA” batteries (Old batteries from around the house will not work. The gate requires a full 12 volts to drop so new batteries are important). Make sure you have all 8 batteries installed correctly. Make sure all contacts on the batteries are touching each other, or the battery holder.

Option 3: Your Holeshot Gate electronics “lost” the RF wireless signal from the wireless remote. If this has happened you can typically reset the wireless signal by following the steps below.

◄Instructions to reset the wireless remote frequency

Switch the power button on the base of the Holeshot to the "off" position
Remove the electronics unit (i.e. the battery pack casing) from inside Holeshot Starting Gate.
Unscrew the 4 screws on the back of the electronics unit, but **be careful not to yank it apart, because there are connecting wires inside** -In the upper right side of the unit, you'll see a small switch labeled "set"
While continuously holding down the "set" switch, turn the power button into the "on" position and let the lights flash through their sequence (**continue holding the "set" switch**)
When the lights stop flashing, release the "set" switch, and push the red button on the remote
The light should blink and turn off.
Press the remote button again. The LED should now start its usual sequence, which is green for 2 seconds, then blinking red, then a little clicking sound.
Reassemble the electronics.

◄The LED on my gate blinks when I press the wireless remote, but the gate still doesn’t drop

If the LED on the gate DOES blink when you press the wireless remote, but the gate still does not drop, please ensure that you have installed a total of 8 NEW “AA” batteries (Old batteries from around the house will not work. The gate requires a full 12 volts to drop so new batteries are important).

If after installing 8 NEW “AA” batteries, the gate still doesn’t drop with the wireless remote, please call Risk Racing: 704-508-1031

You will probably be asked to package up your electronics and wireless remote, and send them back to the Risk Racing offices to be tested, repaired, or replaced.
